SUPPORT THE RESILIENCE OF BLACK, BROWN & ASIAN ORGANIZERS
by The Organizing Center

Lindsay Gilmour
I believe the movement for liberation must be led by people who every day are experiencing systemic injustice, insecurity and poverty. Leaders and staff who spring from frontline communities are dedicated and driven to grapple with prevailing oppressive systems to change conditions and build power for their communities. I am inspired by their vision and commitment, and I’m profoundly aware of two challenges they all face–the work is urgent, all-consuming and exhausting and leaves little time for fundraising or individual and collective care. A high degree of burnout is inevitable. I can’t just sit back and expect black and brown, poor and working-class organizers to do the work to build and drive movements for a just society. One way I can support them is to help fundraise for The Organizing Center's Resilient Futures program. This program directly addresses the conditions that lead to burnout. A cohort of organizers working for food, housing, immigrant, land and domestic worker justice come together to learn how to build a culture of resilience in their organizations. Not how to endure, but valuing personal and collective well being, sharing rest, joy, and connection so the hard work can be sustained. And I love that The OC staff fundraises for this 6-month program themselves and invites their peers, friends and family to help so the organizations in the cohort don’t have to.
The Organizing Center is launching our annual Fundraising Leap. This year we are working to raise $30,000 by December 8th to support our Resilient Futures cohorts for Black, Brown and Asian organizers and their directors.
Every year The Organizing Center supports hundreds of organizers to grow their skills in the fundamentals of organizing and to transform their practices so that they build the resilience that will sustain them for the long-haul. In order to do this we need you!
We offer low-cost, sometimes even free, workshops and coaching to organizations that, themselves, are struggling to make ends meet. We're committed to supporting the growth of powerful base building projects- no matter their ability to pay. With your support we can continue this critical work in a time when building community power is so necessary.
Resilient Futures is one of our keystone peer learning labs. Designed for Black, Brown, & Asian organizers and their directors, we run two parallel cohorts to support organizers to build resilience practices and directors to build a culture of resilience in their organization.
